The Global Rise of Labab Dolls

2 min read

The popularity of the Labubu doll is not accidental, but the result of a combination of factors. Initially, the Labubu doll received a good response in the Chinese market, but the turning point that really made it a global phenomenon was the expansion of the international market starting around 2023.
In Thailand, the Labubu doll quickly became the top of the local trendy toy market. The doll, which was originally sold for 550 baht (about 111 yuan), was sold for 2,590 baht (about 523 yuan) in the second-hand market, with a price increase of more than 376%. This phenomenal growth not only reflects the popularity of the Labubu doll in the Thai market, but also indicates the huge influence it may bring to the global market.
Subsequently, the Labubu doll craze quickly spread to the European and American markets. In the United States, people are even willing to line up on cold winter nights to buy Labubu dolls. It is reported that on resale platforms such as StockX, some limited editions of Labubu have been sold at a high price of US$918, and one of the rarest hidden models has even been sold at a sky-high price of US$1,920. This price surge not only reflects the collectible value of Labubu dolls, but also reflects its huge demand in the international market.
The global rise of Labubu dolls also benefits from the spread of social media. On platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, a large number of unboxing videos and personal collection displays have appeared, which have attracted millions of views and interactions. In addition, many celebrities, including BLACKPINK member Lisa and singer Rihanna, have also displayed their Labubu dolls on social platforms, further increasing their popularity and appeal.
The global expansion of Labubu dolls is also reflected in the entry into high-end retail channels. In a flash event held by Harrods, a British department store known for its luxurious environment and private customization, Labubu entered the high-end toy area as a core IP, and the limited edition blind box sold out on the first day, attracting the attention of a large number of luxury consumers. This event not only marks the successful entry of Labubu dolls into the high-end market, but also symbolizes the increasing recognition of Chinese trendy toy brands in global high-end retail channels.
